first day of spring snow

Through Tuesday evening, the winter weather forecast is in effect for the central and southwestern highlands of Montana.

happy spring! It is said to be spring on the calendar, but it is the beginning of a new era with snow and cold. It can snow at any time of the year here in Montana, but the pattern for this time of year is colder and snowier than usual. Areas of light to moderate snow will continue to move northward through the state through Monday night, as far north as the Missouri River in northern Montana. Snow accumulates about 3 inches from the track at lower elevations and up to 5 inches in the hills around Helena. Up to 12 inches can be seen on higher peaks in southwestern Montana. As the stronger March sun sets, this snow begins to pile up on the roads, making nighttime driving a little slippery through Tuesday morning.

first day of spring snow

Tuesday morning saw snow around Helena, Lewistown and Bozeman, but the storm slowly cleared as clouds cleared in the afternoon. In his 20s and his 30s, highs are cool in most areas. Another storm will move into southern Montana on Wednesday, bringing more snow, but the trail of the system will be further south. Most of the accumulated snow will fall near I-90. Places like Helena and Lewistown are mostly cloudy, but the snow should stay just south of that line. The closer you get to the high line, the stronger the sun. Highs are back in his 20s and his 30s, but still well below average. Thursday will be a little warmer and drier. The sky is partly cloudy and the maximum temperature is around 40-50 degrees. A cold front will pass in the afternoon and snow will fall on the western mountains. Friday will be a very windy day with frequent snow showers in and near the mountains. There may be heavy snow showers, but on the plains there should be little or no snow activity. Strong westerly winds blow up to 40 to 50 mph. Highs are in his 30's to 40's and it's going to be a chilly day again. It will snow both days of the first weekend of spring. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with snow showers and highs in the 30s to low 40s. A steady light snowfall is expected on Sunday, with highs in the 30s. It could take some time, perhaps he until the end of the first week of April, for temperatures to return to average spring levels.
